A Further Update on COVID-19

April 3, 2020
by Israel Foulon LLP

Summary

Since our April 1, 2020 E-Bulletin, there have been further important announcements of which employers should be aware (a few key details are listed below):

  • The Ontario government announced a revised list of essential businesses on April 3, 2020, with the list dropping from 74 to 44 essential businesses.
    • All businesses that are now non-essential must shutdown effective 11:59 pm on Saturday, April 4, 2020. The shutdown will be for at least fourteen (14) days.
    • The revised list of essential businesses can be accessed by clicking HERE.
    • Among other things, industrial construction will cease and only essential infrastructure- related projects will proceed. No new residential construction will take place under the order. However, residential projects near completion will be allowed to continue. Retail cannabis outlets will also be forced to close (although people can still order from the province’s online store).
    • Employers may call the Stop the Spread Business Information Line at 1-888-444-3659 or contact us for specific legal advice if they have any questions.
    • Teleworking and online commerce continue to be permitted at all times for all businesses.

Given the exceptional and unprecedented situation, we expect further developments in the coming hours and days.
