Biography

Warren obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1980, where he majored in Economics. He subsequently obtained his Juris Doctorate from the University of Toronto in 1983. Warren was called to the Ontario Bar in 1985.

Warren practices through Warren Rapoport Professional Corporation and is Pension and Commercial Litigation counsel to Israel Foulon LLP. Warren’s areas of practice include employment and pension law, civil and commercial litigation, specialized insurance (professional liability and jewelry), as well as estates and trusts disputes. In his employment law practice, he represents employers and employees, addressing a wide range of issues at both the provincial and federal levels. This includes wrongful dismissal claims, workplace harassment disputes, human rights complaints, as well as issues relating to confidential information, fiduciary duties, solicitation and competition. He also drafts employment contracts and handbooks for employers. In the pension area, Warren has acted on the wind-ups of defined benefit plans, including both the Eaton’s and Hudson Bay plans, as well as other pension matters before the Financial Services Commission (FSCO). He also advises clients in respect of pension implications primarily in estate and employment matters. In his commercial law practice, Warren provides advice and litigation counsel in regards to contract disputes, partnership and shareholder disputes, commercial real estate and leasing, as well mortgage issues (particularly with regards to appraiser negligence claims).

Warren’s approach to client matters is to assess pro-actively with his clients what the desired outcome is, and to tailor the approach to get there in tandem with the client. He understands that the cost of disputes can be daunting, and seeks to provide a cost effective approach in accordance with the client’s needs. Simply stated: Litigate through the courts only when necessary or of strategic advantage.

As Counsel to Israel Foulon LLP, particularly with respect to pensions and commercial disputes, he brings an added resource for our firm to call on as may be needed.

Warren is a member of the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations, the Arbitration Institute of Ontario and the Advocates Society. He is accredited by the Arbitration Institute of Ontario and previously taught alternative dispute resolution at the Bar Admission Course.

When not practicing law, Warren is an avid cyclist and skier (both water and snow), and when time has permitted he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and Rainier, and continues to hike and mountain climb whenever a destination permits.
