Biography

Katherine Chau is a business-minded litigator with a practice focusing on employment law.

Katherine provides strategic and timely advice to both employers and employees in all aspects of employment law including employment standards, employment contracts, workplace policies, occupational health and safety, accommodations, terminations, and workplace investigations.

Katherine is an experienced advocate and has appeared before all levels of court and administrative tribunals in Ontario. Katherine regularly represents clients in employment-related litigation including wrongful and constructive dismissal claims, departing employee cases, and human rights complaints. Katherine has experience litigating wrongful dismissal actions involving executive-level employees and commercial disputes including partnership agreements and shareholder agreements.

Katherine also has substantial experience in assisting clients with a wide range of commercial disputes including contractual disputes, shareholder disputes, oppression actions, fraud, and other business-related disputes.

Katherine understands the stakes involved for clients who are navigating the litigation process and strives to take a client-focused approach to find legal and business solutions that balances the time, stress and costs associated with litigating a dispute.

During law school, Katherine earned awards including the Professor H.R.S. Ryan Prize for highest standing in Evidence. Katherine also worked as a caseworker at Queen’s Legal Aid, competed in the Wilson Moot and the Hicks Morley Labour Arbitration Competition, and completed a public interest internship with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Laos.

Prior to attending law school, Katherine completed her undergraduate degree in Business Administration at the Schulich School of Business at York University.
